Geocache Description:

THIS IS A MULTI CACHE

This cache is located in one of the historic areas of Tasmania with links to the farming and seafaring communities. The primary reason for the cache was to provide a jumping off point for a travel bug (Dufus) and to bring people down this section of the valley and to points south.

The directions to this cache are two fold. In order to get to know your GPS better the first location is given as a waypoint that will direct you to the cache's final location. The problem will be that the final resting place will be given in UTM format.

On the guard rail at S 43° 05.120 E 147° 00.844 (WGS84) you will find a number in the format: 55 G xxxxxxx xxxxxxx. You are going to have to put your GPS into UTM coordinate mode as these numbers are the UTM coordinates for the real cache location. The map datum remains the standard WGS84. If you have everything worked out correctly, the cache should be about 3.16 Kms from this location.

I advise visiting during the daytime as the visitors center that is close to the first waypoint is well worth the visit. The name of the cache is drawn from this place. Open seven days a week from 9.30 am to 5 pm. There is an admission charge and at the time of placing the cache it was $5.50 for adults and $4.50concession.

UPDATE as at 22Oct15. Entry is now $10.. (Thanks La Kedi)

The original cache contained items that are themed around the sea/water/outdoors.

This cache is being maintained by dancesports (Many thanks to her)

Difficulty rating is a 2.5 because of the conversion to UTM and terrain is 2 due to the fact that there is a bit of a quandry in getting to the second location.

From Hobart, allow at least 90 mins for this one, not including time if you visit the suggested centre.

(I am not in any way associated with the aforementioned centre, just an admirer of fine craftsmanship.)

There is not much of a place to park for the cache location, so approach slowly for a single spot to park.

Cache now maintained by the Tas_Community account, thank you to Rastas000 for placing and maintaining this Multi Cache (the oldest remaining in Tasmania)
