Geocache Description:

Warning: This cache requires about a 15-mile hike with lots of elevation changes. It would be possible to do this cache in one day, but extremely difficult. It is highly recommended that this cache be done as a 2-day back pack.

This cache is on the Tom Sauk section of the Ozark Trail. It may be possible to reach this cache from some way other than the Ozark Trail, but in order to log this cache you have to hike or backpack to it from either the Tom Sauk (N37 34.343 W90 43.653) or Johnson Shut Inns (N37 33.387 W90 50.377) trail heads. The cache is about halfway between the Tom Sauk trail head and the Johnson Shut Inns trail head. My suggestion is shuttle your car and go from Tom Sauk to Johnson Shut Inns.

This is some of the most rugged terrain in Missouri. It also has some of the best scenery in Missouri. There are many spectacular vistas and many fine camp sites.

The cache is at the campsite I stayed on my trip. It is one of the best campsites I have ever camped in. It has a spectacular vista - I think it is better than the one on Wildcat Mountain. It was particularly nice this weekend as the colors were at their peak. It is in a glade with plenty of spaces for tents. Plenty of fire wood and there were also holes in the rocks where I was able to filter water. It was great waking up and opening my tent window and seeing the vista of Church Mountain and its surroundings.

This is the 95th cache I have set up.

The cache contains a log and pencil. Please do not put anything in the cache but log entries. I don’t want to take any chances with critters being this remote of a location. Please place the plastic container upside down.

The cache is close to the trail. Stay on the well-marked Ozark Trail until you are about 50 feet from the cache.

The Ozark Trail is not marked on the USGS maps. Go to www.ozarktrail.com/maps.php There are maps of the Taum Sauk Section. If you have a Garmin GPS, I have a topo, POI, landownership, and trail maps for this area: (visit link)
