Geocache Description:

Mega 2013 - Let's Go Fly a Kite

Where:
Burton Dassett Hills Country Park,
Southam,
Warwickshire,

CV47 2AB

When:
Monday 29th July

11.00am - 3.00pm

Join the 2013 UK Mega Committee for a geocaching meet with a difference! The Burton Dassett Hills are a popular destination for kite flyers. This will be a family friendly event where cachers old and young alike are invited to try their hand at kite flying. stevo185 (a prolific cacher from Derbyshire) has kindly offered to lend us his numerous different kites and expertise to help you get them up in the air! Of course, if you own your own kite, please feel free to bring it along. There will also be the opportunity to make a simple kite from a kit provided by us (for a small charge).

"Unspoilt, rolling hills – that’s what you will discover at Burton Dassett Hills. Whether you are walking, flying a kite or just sitting in your car, the magnificent views from these hills are breathtaking.

The site comprises a series of rugged hilltops affording spectacular views in all directions and Fox Covert, a small woodland with a surfaced footpath. Opened as a country park in 1971, the 100 acres contain a wealth of historical interest such as the prominent beacon, quarry remains and the nearby 12th Century All Saints Church."

As this is a lunchtime event bring along your chairs and picnic blankets so we can all enjoy lunch together. For obvious reasons, if the weather is wet, or there is no wind, the kites won't get off the ground, so why not bring along other flying objects such as frisbees or bring some paper and make your own aeroplanes.

There are several parking areas on the hills, all of which charge a flat daily rate of £1.50 per car (Pay and Display - correct change required).

Kite flying can be dangerous, so we will have a roped off area where you must fly your kites to stop others wandering into the flying area. The strong nylon ropes can cause injuries, so you participate in this activity at your own risk.
