This cache: I once gave my parents cause for concern when my brother and I vanished for hours to play on this railway line. It was still in use then. We walked along it on a Sunday though, when no trains ran on it. That made the punishment no less severe though.
Biography: In 1974 I discovered girls (see a shot with an early crush, Sam) and moved to Steeple Claydon; the bungalow you passed earlier. I had an idylic childhood in many ways, with a good sized back garden for harring around. I've early memories of walking to Sunday School and sleeping on top of my mother's top-loading washing machine. The sound always made me sleepy - still does. Which might explain why I'm rarely awake at the end of F1 Grand Prix races...
Wider world: 1974 was the year of Blazing Saddles and the Return of the Pink Panther, Pong and The Wombles in the pop charts. Porridge, It Ain't Half Hot Mum and Bagpuss were on the telly, plus Streaking took off. Everything. Number 1 on my birthday: Gonna Make You a Star by David Essex.
