Geocache Description:

Chinook Jargon for 'deer country'

I stumbled onto this place while looking for Hazard Stevens' account of the first "Ascent of Takhoma", where their Yakima guide, Sluiskin warned them of the terrible trouble they would encounter, should they continue to the top.

Try putting "Mowich Illahee" into your favorite search engine. Apparently there is a lot going on up here....

Having spent quite a bit of time up in the Loup Loup, I wasn't aware of all the hotels, real estate, webcams and more items that the World Wide Web lists as being available in Mowich Illahee, not to mention for sale by owner homes, work at home jobs and bathroom remodels.

Apparently this is "A populated place that is not a census designated or incorporated place having an official federally recognized name."

I have not yet been able to ascertain how Mowich Illahee obtained its "official federally recognized name", but I can attest that it is true to its namesake (even if there is absolutely nothing else there).

Take Hwy 20, Loup Loup Highway to the Sweat Creek Road. Continue past the Sweat Creek Campground, otherwise know as "The Pixley Sportsmans' Club".

Please share any pictures you get of the "Mowich" in the "Illahee"
