Em plena serra de Monchique, freguesia do Alferce, situa-se a fonte termal da Malhada Quente. A sua água emerge através de diaclases (fracturas na rocha) e é uma água bicarbonatada sódica, hipossalina e quase tão alcalina como as Águas de Monchique. Situando-se a Malhada Quente no maciço eruptivo sub-vulcânico sienítico de Monchique, explica o porquê da água emergir a 23,2ºC (Embora em estudos antigos refira que seja a 28ºC e nas fontes não se note essa temperatura).
Diz-se que a água é boa para problemas de reumatismo, pele e sistema digestivo, pelo que muitas pessoas lá vão buscar água. Existem também duas cabines de duche mas que estão fechadas ao publico. Era costume ser frequentada por pessoas de toda a região, inclusive do Baixo Alentejo, que ali procuravam a cura para as suas doenças. Nos dias de hoje já é pouco procurada devido talvez ao estado do local.
Para chegarem ao local desviem para a Fonte Santa, seguindo as placas, na localidade de Malhada Quente, estrada de Monchique-Alferce(EN267). O estacionamento é em N37 20.025 W8 31.347 e daqui devem seguir a pé até ao local.
Esta cache está num “container” fora do normal e num local de fácil acesso. Peço que deixem a cache tal como a encontraram e que não estraguem o envolvente nas buscas. Não precisam de arrancar nada para a encontrar, bastando apenas mover algumas plantas. O sinal de gps no local é fraco.
Esta é uma das "3 Fontes Santas de Monchique". As outras duas são a da Fornalha e a das Caldas.

In the middle of Serra de Monchique, parish of Alferce, it's the source of thermal water of Malhada Quente. The water emerges through diaclases (fractures in the rock) and is a bicarbonated water , hyposaline and about as alkaline as the waters of Monchique. Malhada Quente is located in massive eruptive sub-volcanic syenite of Monchique, explaining so why the water spout at 23.2 º C (Although in some studies refer to rise at 28ºCand in the springs you don't feel that temperature).
It is said that water is good for problems of rheumatism, skin and digestive system, so many people will get water there. There are also two cabins to shower but are closed to the public. It was usually frequented by people from throughout the region, including from Baixo Alentejo, who sought a cure for their diseases there. In today's times is little sought, probably by the state of the place.
To reach the local turn to Fonte Santa in Malhada Quente, following the signs, from the road Monchique-Alferce-(EN267). Parking is at N37 20,025 W8 31,347. From here you have to walk to the place.
This cache is in a "container" out of the ordinary and it's in a easily accessible location. I ask you
to leave the cache just as you found it and don't ruin the place environment in searches. You don't need to pull out anything, just move some plants. The GPS signal is weak there.
This is also known as one of the “3 Fontes Santas de Monchique". The others are from
Fornalha and from
Caldas.
