The calçotada is one of the bests get-together gastronomic
festivals in Catalonia organized by family members,
colleagues or friends roasting calçots and meat in charcoal, the
meal is also accompanied by red wine.
The calçot is a variety of scallion and it's lowered into the
mouth in the traditional fashion after being peeled and dipped in a
delicious sauce typically made from almonds, hazelnuts, garlic, red
peppers, nyores and olive oil.
We are sincerely hoping a visit from cachers from around the
World and share geoexperiences. We are currently working in provide
solutions for having a cheap stay during the event, for example,
we can take visitors from the airport to
the hotel/youth hostel/camping or from the lodge to the event
location with our cars, absolutely free. We will work on it so
that nobody had to rent a car!
The vitamins from the calçots and the energy of the sauce
reinforce the metabolism the day after the meal, according to
my experience, that could provide a 30 km walk of caching without
becoming exhausted.
The calçotada will took place in a country house that serves
lodging and activities for elementary school students, placed at
Vilanova de Sau,surrounded by a forest.
It's a youth hotel with collective rooms (several beds per
room). If you want to spend a night please
contact us
for booking a bed. There is also a camping next to the cache event
location.
The nearest airport is
Girona-Costa Brava which it's actually a low-cost
airport with also low-cost aerolines. Please, take a
quick look at Internet and book a flight.
The Barcelona airport is just about 1 hour 30'' far from
the event location.
The suggested AVE (TGV) train station is the Barcelona
one.
The catalan geocachers shall be happy to wait and take
you from/to the airport or train station by car. Please
tell your arrival and departure
dates.

Countries Where I
Had Been Caching:
|
If you want to be included in the Calçotada Aplec 2009 Yearbook
send me an
e-mail
with:
- A link of your best image.
- A Top 10 of your favourite found caches.
- Your gadgets/gear/tools used for geocaching.
- A brief description of some of your hidden caches, if you
want.
- A list of countries where you had been caching.
Travel Bugs and Geocoins will gain special prominence in the
Calçotada Aplec event, even will enjoy their own room in the
country house.
A large world map poster will indicate the geographical goal of
each trackable (with specific destination) so that the most
appropiate attendees could grab and help it to achieve
the objectives.
A version of this world map poster will be available on-line
soon
If you finally decide to fly by a Low-cost aeroline and you
don't want to pay any extra fee, please note that only one item of
cabin baggage per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg
with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm is permitted since
November 2008. And if you are planing a short trip don't
bring any bag for check-in, it's unnecessary and also another extra
cost.
The list below contains all the necessary items that I always
need for a geocaching short trip and fits perfectly in a standard
hand baggage:
|
- ID card / Passport
- Money
- Credit cards
- European Health Insurance Card
- Driving license
