Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache is not at the above co-ordinates, they are for an
information sign at an access point to Caton Moor. There is a small
parking area nearby.
This is CROW access land so please follow the rules on the sign. In
particular pay attention to the 'excluded area' shaded in orange on
the map at the sign-post. You do not need to enter this
area! Follow the concessionary bridleway leading from the access
point to the rest of the access land instead.
This cache page would really benefit from a nice photo here,
don't you think?
So here's the deal: Upload a photo from your visit along with your
log and I'll put the best up here at the top of the page for all to
see. I'll rotate the photos every now and again, so keep uploading

This area is almost unknown and quiet but the terrain is quite
rough and can be boggy in places so walking boots are recommended,
as is the most recent edition of OS Explorer OL41. The high terrain
rating is mainly for the route to the final location; there is no
clear path and parts are steep and can be slippery, especially
after rain.
The original Beasts of Caton Moor were erected in 1994 and were
one of the earliest installations of their kind in the UK. Their
life was short, however as they soon became out-dated and were
considered inefficient. In 2005, the 10 original beasts were
removed and replaced with the present arrangement of 8 much larger
and more efficient structures.
Many consider the Beasts to be a blot on the landscape, an eyesore
in a beautiful place but it's only when you get up close and
personal with them that you can truly appreciate their sheer scale
and might. They are genuinely impressive structures, working
tirelessly for the benefit of many thousands of people in the
valleys below.
In addition to the logbook, pen, pencil and sharpener, the
original contents of the cache were:
- 4 highlighter pens
- 3 pencil grippers
- Pink spiky cat
- A rubber
- 2008 diary and pen set

Instructions:

the information sign and then through the gate on the right hand
side. This well defined track is a concessionary bridleway that
leads to the rest of the access land, avoiding the excluded
area.

One of the Beasts of
Caton Moor is now on your right hand side. Near ground-level there
is an oval-shaped door. At the top of the door is a letter T
followed by a single-digit number, let's call it 'n'.
A = n + 1
B = n x 2
C = n x

While you're at Stage 2, why not take a short detour and continue
up the hill to the nearby trig point at N54° 04.170 W002° 38.248
(SD 58381 63929). On a clear day, there's a 360° panorama from this
point giving stunning views of: Ingleborough, the Southern Lakeland
fells, Morecambe Bay and Warton Crag, Clougha Pike and Ward's Stone
and the Lune Valley.
The total walk is about 2.5 miles round-trip from the parking area
and will probably take about 1.5 hours to complete.
Expressive logs and photo uploads are actively encouraged
, have fun
