Geocache Description:

With a beautiful view of Lake Winnecunnet (aka Winnecunnet Pond) directly across the street, William Witherell built the first house in Norton on this site in 1669.

Today, only the home's foundation is left amongst the trees. A roadside stone identifies the site:

Please keep an eye out for muggles - ESPECIALLY on weekends and during the summer. Fishermen use the spot across the street and there is a boat launch just north of the site. Parking is best across the street, about 250 feet south. Cache contains a log and a pen, but please bring your own pen just in case.

Update Sept 2007:
The Norton Historical Commission recently marked the area with two informative signs - one about the Winnecunnett Pond Area and one describing the Norton's First Burial Ground. If you're interested in checking out this bit of history, there is a woodchip path leading from the sign to the burial ground. The path is a little bit sparse, but cuts through an open field. The burial ground should be easy to find, but just in case, we've added a waypoint to help you get there.
