Background
Not long before this cache was created, Groundspeak added the feature that identifies the cumulative number and type of logs for a given cache. Upon first seeing this feature, I did a quick review of some area caches, and then was reminded of a series of caches in Indiana that have startling stat lines: Shelter II, Shelter III, Shelter IV.
These Indiana caches provided inspiration for some now archived caches in this region. When they were active, I noted on more than one occasion that some of these caches came with what I call the “Dreaded Parameters”. After a brief or not-so brief trek, the cacher arrives at the target site ready to hunt for a no-hint micro (NHM) in the woods. He/she then learns there are parameters (which I dread) for the search. The NHM in question is not at ground zero of the given coords, but within, for example, 30 ft of GZ. In effect, you could be searching for the NHM in one spot, and it could actually be 60 ft away. I have a hard enough time finding micros with hints at GZ, never mind NHMs within a 2827 sq ft search area.
For those that like a challenge, here are two Dreaded Parameter caches, which may provide an enjoyable distraction for some in settings all can enjoy.
Dreaded Parameters 1 – The Pavilion has clearly been inspired by the Indiana caches mentioned above.
Find the micro that contains coordinates to the final hidden elsewhere in the park.
The Dreaded Parameters for this cache – It’s probably obvious what the Dreaded Parameters should be, but for the record the platform length including the grill area is 62 ft, and the posted coords are intended to mark the center of the platform area. The DP then to apply to the posted coords and/or the center of the platform area will be 31ft.
The micro is not on the roof and is visible from the proper vantage point. There is no need to take anything apart nor does anything need to be dismantled, demolished, destroyed etc etc
See link for more information on Hopkinton State Park. NOTE: There is a parking fee in the summer and groups often reserve The Pavilion site. Visits early or late in the day may be best.
