Das Akademische Kunstmuseum wurde 1824/25 für die damals noch junge Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität als Anatomie gebaut. Es liegt gegenüber des Universitäts-Hauptgebäudes an der Stirnseite des Hofgartens.

1883/84 wurde das Gebäude erweitert und umgebaut und wird seitdem von der Universität als Antikenmuseum genutzt. Rund 2400 Gipsabgüsse sowie Tausende Originale aus der antiken römischen und griechischen Kunst werden hier ausgestellt und erforscht. Seit 1908 ist dazu auch das archäologische Institut mit Hörsaal und Bibliothek im Gebäude angesiedelt.
The Academic Art Museum was built in 1824/25 for the then still young Friedrich-Wilhelms-University as anatomy. It is located opposite the main university building at the front of the park Hofgarten.

The building was extended and rebuilt in 1883/84 and has since been used by the university as an antique museum. Around 2400 plaster casts and thousands of originals from ancient Roman and Greek art are displayed and explored here. Thus, since 1908, the archaeological institute with auditorium and library has been located in the building also.
