Am Rande des Tagebaus der Quarzwerke Witterschlick hat der Betreiber eine Informationstafel aufgestellt. Auf insgesamt vier Tafeln beschreibt die Firma, welche Ausgleichsmaßnahmen wegen der Zerstörung der Natur duch den Tagebau unternommen werden. Dazu gehört zum einen die Aufforstung von Flächen in der Umgebung, anhand derer die Entstehung und Entwicklung von Wäldern erklärt wird. Zum anderen werden Maßnahmen zum Schutz der örtlichen Fauna ergriffen, insbesondere der Amphibien. Auf den Tafeln wird ausführlich die Bedeutung der Frösche und Kröten erörtert sowie die Maßnahmen zu ihrem Schutz.

Die Informationstafel ist mit dem Auto oder Fahrrad über die Schmale Allee erreichbar. Ein paar Bänke laden zum Verweilen ein. Man hat von der Position aus einen guten Blick auf die auf den Tafeln beschriebenen Maßnahmen, aber auch auf die Grube des Tagebaus.
On the edge of the quarry of Quarzwerke Witterschlick, the operator has set up an information board. On a total of four panels, the company describes what compensatory measures are being taken for the destruction of nature by open pit mining. This includes, on the one hand, the afforestation of areas in the vicinity, on the basis of which the formation and development of forests are explained. On the other hand, measures are taken to protect the local fauna, especially the amphibians. The boards will discuss at length the importance of frogs and toads and the measures taken to protect them.

The information board can be reached by car or bicycle via the road Schmale Allee. A few benches invite you to linger. From the position one has a good view of the measures described on the panels, but also of the pit of the quarry.
