FR L'hôtel de ville d'Aix-en-Provence, dont la façade inspirée des palais italiens borde l'un des côtés de la place, fut reconstruit entre 1655 et 1678 sur les plans de l'architecte Pierre Pavillon, assisté des sculpteurs Jean-Claude Rambot et Jacques Fossé.

Tour de l'Horloge.
Au nord-est de la place, La tour de l'horloge (ou tour communale), accolée à l'hôtel de ville, enjambe la rue. Construite sur un soubassement de calcaire blanc datant de l'époque romaine, elle fut surélevée en 1510 et décorée d'accolades et pinacles flamboyants. À son sommet se trouve, dans une cage en ferronnerie datant du xvie siècle, la cloche du ban, qui appelait autrefois au conseil ou à la défense dans le périmètre d'une lieue.

Sous la cloche du ban, dans sa cage de ferronnerie, sous l'horloge horaire, flanquée de deux statues modernes on peut voir l'horloge astronomique de 1661 qui rend fou les géocacheurs en quête de ce qui est arrêté sur le 14.

La halle aux grains
Au sud de la place, construite à partir de 1754, la halle aux grains est implantée entre la place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville et la place Richelme. Sa façade nord, donnant sur la place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville est ornée d’un fronton allégorique, sculpté par Jean-Pancrace Chastel, représentant les deux éléments de la prospérité agricole en Provence : le Rhône et la Durance. Cette ancienne halle aux grains, classée monument historique en 19052, abrite aujourd'hui la bibliothèque municipale du même nom, ainsi qu'un guichet de poste.

Au centre de la place
Une fontaine édifiée en 1755, surmontée d’une colonne romaine, est l'œuvre de Jean-Pancrace Chastel, qui sculpta notamment les mascarons crachant l'eau de la source des Pinchinats. Cette fontaine a été classée monument historique en 19053.

Sur la place se tiennent, un marché aux fleurs les mardis, jeudis et samedis et une foire du livre ancien le premier dimanche de chaque mois.

Clock tower.
To the northeast of the square, the clock tower (or communal tower), contiguous to the town hall, spans the street. Built on a base of white limestone dating back to Roman times, it was raised in 1510 and decorated with accolades and flamboyant pinnacles. At the top of it is, in a wrought iron cage dating from the sixteenth century, the bell of the ban, which formerly called for the council or the defense in the perimeter of a league.

The grain hall
To the south of the square, built from 1754, the grain hall is located between the Place de l'Hotel-de-Ville and Place Richelme. Its north facade, overlooking the Place de l'Hotel-de-Ville is adorned with an allegorical pediment, carved by Jean-Pancrace Chastel, representing the two elements of agricultural prosperity in Provence: the Rhone and Durance. This former grain hall, classified a historic monument in 19052, now houses the municipal library of the same name, as well as a post office.


In the center of the square, a fountain built in 1755, surmounted by a Roman column, is the work of Jean-Pancrace Chastel, who sculpted in particular the masks spewing water from the source of Pinchinats. This fountain was classified as a historical monument in 19053.

On the square stand, a flower market on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and a former book fair on the first Sunday of each month.
