DE:

EN:
Cassius and Florentius are worshiped as martyrs by the Catholic church. The two Roman soldiers are said to have been executed in 302 A.D. during persecution of the Christians in Bonn, because together with their legion they refused to attack Christian Gallic farmers, the "Bagauden", on order of emperor Maximian.

At the end of the 7th century, in honor of Cassius, the "Cassius-Stift" was founded, which built the collegiate church "St. Cassius und Florentius", the predecessor of the cathedral "Bonner Münster" (WMM35W). The remains of Cassius and Florentius are told to have laid in it's crypt.

The two sculptures lying on the Martinsplatz in Bonn in front of the cathedral show the heads of Cassius and Florentius. They were created in 2002 by the Turkish sculptor Iskender Yediler and are made from granite.
