Built in 1950, the Mineral County courthouse is nestled at the base of Willow Creek Canyon in downtown Creede. The town of Creede was one of the last silver boom towns to spring up in Colorado, reaching a population of over 10,000 in 1891. Some of the most famous people to live here include Bat Masterson, Jefferson "Soapy" Smith and Robert Ford (who killed the outlaw Jesse James). But just as fast as the town sprang up, it dwindled with the Silver Panic of 1893. However, it never became a ghost town and managed to survive through several floods and fires.

Today, Creede is the only incorporated town in Mineral County. However, the historic charm still remains and the town boasts two museums (including the Underground Mining Museum) and a thriving art center.
