Andrej Hlinka Mausoleum - Ružomberok, SK - Mausoleums on Waymarking.com

Andrej Hlinka, a native of a village near Ružomberok, a leader of Slovak People's Party, was active in Slovak national liberation movement at the beginning of 20th century. After establishment of Czechoslovakia, he was demanding an autonomy of Slovakia.
He died in 1938, before the Slovaks gained an autonomy in the post Munich Treaty Czechoslovakia in October 1938, and before establishment of a formally independent Slovak Republic, a satellite of Nazi Germany, and he couldn't be held directly responsible for the crimes of that regime. However, he became a state symbol, and the cult included building this Mausoleum.

History: The mausoleum was built in 1938-1939. After finishing, Hlinka's embalmed body was moved here from Ružomberok cemetery, but in March 1945 it was moved again to Bratislava because of the advancing Soviet troops. There it was hidden in Dome of St. Martin and eventually it got lost. In 1990-1991 the mausoleum was renovated and in 2003 the empty coffin was carried back from Bratislava - the body has still not been found.
