Aachen Cathedral, also known as the Kaiserdom of Aachen, is
one of the most splendid buildings in Europe and a church of great
historical value.
Built by Charlemagne in 805 AD, its unique design has been very
influential in the German church architecture.
It is the coronation church of more than 30 German kings, burial site
of Charlemagne, major pilgrimage church and cathedral church of the
Aachen diocese since 1930.
The Aachen Cathedral contains lots of valuable objects from the Middle
Ages. It is a very important historical site too. Its treasury includes
the Cross of Lothar or the Persephone Sacrophagus. In 1978 it
was the first German building to be included in the UNESCO World
Heritage list.
The Cathedral is the main attraction of the city of Aachen.

Der Aachener Dom, der auch als Kaiserdom zu Aachen
bekannt, ist eines der prachtvollsten Gebäude in Europa und
eine Kirche von großem historischen Wert.
Erstellt von Karl dem Großen im Jahr 805 n. Chr., hat es mit
seinem einzigartigen Design sehr einflussreich auf
die deutsche Kirchenarchitektur gwirkt.
Es ist die Krönungskirche von mehr als 30 deutsche
Könige, Begräbnisstätte Karls des
Großen, großen Wallfahrtskirche und Kathedrale des
Bistums Aachen seit 1930.
Der Aachener Dom enthält viele wertvolle Gegenstände
aus dem Mittelalter. Es ist eine sehr wichtige historische
Stätte.
Die Schatzkammer enthält z.B. das Kreuz von Lothar.
Im Jahr 1978 war es das erste deutsche Gebäude, welches in der
UNESCO-Liste des Weltkulturerbes aufgenommen wurde.
Die Kathedrale ist die Hauptattraktion der Stadt Aachen.
