Königswinter ist eine Stadt am östlichen Rheinufer gegenüber von Bonn Bad Godesberg am Fuße des Siebengebirges. Bei Touristen ist der Ort insbesondere für den legendären Drachenfels berühmt, einen Berggipfel mit Burgruine oberhalb von Königswinter. Eine historische Zahnradbahn fährt vom Ort bis zur Aussichtsplattform am Berggipfel. Im Ort selber erfreut sich die Rheinpromenade mit vielen Cafes und dem Erlebnisaquarium Sea Life großer Beliebtheit.

Das Rathaus der Stadt Königswinter befindet sich am sogenannten Marktplatz in der Köngswinterer Altstadt. Nach der Stadtgründung 1889 erwarb die Stadt zunächst ein Wohnhaus, das heute als "Altes Rathaus" bekannt ist. Es wurde in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts als zweigeschossiger, villenähnlicher Putzbau gebaut. Die Architektur ist von risaltartigen Türmen und Ziergibeln im Neorenaissance Stil geprägt. Den rechten Gebäudetrakt ziert ein auffälliges ehemaliges Wappen der Stadt Königswinter.

Später wurden das Rathaus und die Stadtverwaltung um weitere Gebäude erweitert, die alle um den Marktplatz herum angesiedelt sind. Im Säulengang, der die neueren Gebäude verbindet, steht eine Statue von Siegfried, der der Nibelungensaga nach hier auf dem Drachenfels gegen einen Drachen gekämpft und diesen besiegt haben soll.

Königswinter is a city on the eastern bank of the river Rhine across from Bonn Bad Godesberg at the foot of the mountains Siebengebirge. Among tourists the town is particularly famous for the legendary Drachenfels, a mountain peak with a castle ruin above Königswinter. A historic cogwheel railway runs from the village to the viewing platform on the mountain top. In the village itself, the Rhine promenade with many cafes and the adventure aquarium Sea Life is very popular.

The town hall of Königswinter is located on the so-called market square in the old town of Köngswinter. After the city was founded in 1889, the city initially acquired a residential building which is known today as the "Old Town Hall". It was built in the second half of the 19th century as a two-storey, villa-like plastered building. The architecture is characterized by risaltike towers and decorative gables in the neo-renaissance style. The right wing is adorned with a striking former coat of arms of the city of Königswinter.

Later the town hall and the city administration were expanded to include additional buildings, all of which are located around the market square. In the portico that connects the newer buildings there is a statue of Siegfried, who, according to the Nibelung saga, fought a dragon here on the Drachenfels and defeated him.
