Six nights in Fiji, one night in LA and now we have had five nights in Belize. Today we head to Flores Guatemala by bus and hopefully the border crossing will be straight forward. Today we also celebrate our Wedding Anniversary.
Belize has a carribean vibe and we met several people from Canada and USA who decided to make Belize their home after holidaying here.
Caye Caulker and Ambergis Caye are beautiful tropical islands which support both tourism and permanent residents. Lots of bars, restaurants, diving and snorkelling opportunities. Their reef is second in size to the Barrier reef. Life looks to be pretty laid back in these places.
Our pick up at Belize airport after LA was faultless and our accommodation at Guillermo's airbnb delightful. A colonial residence with a pretty garden and patio to enjoy when having our breakfast beautifully prepared by our host. Guillermo was able to provide information on everything we needed plus arrange a taxis when needed.
We were able to get phone coverage easily costing about $us20 for a sim card for a month so we were able to do the 2 ALs.
English is widely spoken and the locals are friendly and helpful and we quite often ate street food and chatted with the booth owner.
We caught the local bus to the zoo/sanctuary yesterday. It's 45km out of town. Coming back was standing room only, sardine style, still we were happy to get picked up rather than being left on the side of the road on a very hot day.
Photo will be uploaded so check the website if you want to have a look.
