RITUAIS

Mergulhando na raiz profana e carnal, o verdadeiro motivo que move o Careto é apanhar raparigas para as poder chocalhar. Sempre que se vislumbra um rabo de saia, o Careto é impelido pelo seu vigor. 
Ao CARETO tudo se permite nesses dias, pois ele assume uma dupla personalidade. O indivíduo ao vestir o fato torna-se misterioso e o seu comportamento muda completamente, ficado possuindo de uma energia transcendental. Existe algo de mágico e de forças sobrenaturais ocultas em todo este ritual de festa que atribui a estas personagens prerrogativas a imunidade interditas a outros mortais. A antiguidade e originalidade desta tradição, cheia de cor e som e a vontade das gentes de Podence, em preservar estas figuras, fizeram dos Caretos personagens famosas para lá dos limites da aldeia... e são cada vez mais frequentes os convites a este grupo etnográfico para deslocações a vários pontos do país e do estrangeiro.

ENTRUDO EM PODENCE

Em Podence, nos dias de Carnaval, os Caretos surgem em magotes, de todos os sítios, percorrendo a aldeia em correrias desenfreadas, num clima fantástico e fascinante, pleno de sedução e mistério. Ninguém lhes consegue ficar indiferente, aqueles que não se vestirem de Careto abrem as suas adegas aos passantes.
As crianças de sexo masculino, os Facanitos perseguem os Caretos tentando imitá-los, as raparigas solteiras, são o principal alvo dos mascarados, admiram-nos das janelas ou varandas das suas casas, com um certo receio de que o entusiasmo dos Caretos os leve a trepar para as poderem chocalhar.

Despedem o inverno e saúdam a Primavera, para os Caretos o Carnaval é um ritual entre o pagão e o religioso, tão natural como a passagem do tempo e a renovação das estações. Em Podence, concelho de Macedo de cavaleiros, todos os anos é assim.

RITUALS

Plunging into the profane and carnal root, the real motive that moves the Careto is catching girls to rattle them. Whenever a tail is glimpsed, the Careto is impelled by its vigor.
To the CARETTE everything is allowed in these days, because it assumes a double personality. The individual in dressing the suit becomes mysterious and their behavior changes completely, being possessed of a transcendental energy. There is something magical and supernatural forces hidden in this feast ritual that attributes to these personages prerogatives the immunity that is forbidden to other mortals. The antiquity and originality of this tradition, full of color and sound and the will of the people of Podence, in preserving these figures, have made Caretos famous characters beyond the limits of the village ... and more and more are the invitations to this group for traveling to various parts of the country and abroad.

ENTRUDE IN PODENCE

In Podence, on the days of Carnival, the Caretos appear in magotes, of all the places, walking the village in rampant races, in a fantastic and fascinating climate, full of seduction and mystery. Nobody can keep them indifferent, those who do not dress in Careto open their cellars to the passers-by.
The male children, the Facanitos persecute the Caretos trying to imitate them, the unmarried girls, are the main target of the masked, admire them of the windows or balconies of their houses, with a certain fear that the enthusiasm of the Caretos to climb to rattle them.

They throw off winter and greet Spring, for Caretos Carnival is a ritual between pagan and religious, as natural as the passage of time and the renewal of seasons. In Podence, Macedo county of knights, every year is like this.
