GAGB's Racing Hounds - Tetley

This trackable is part of the GAGB Trackable Race 2019 and is dedicated to our Golden Retriever "Tetley" who was part of the Collie Wobbles Canine Crew.  

Tetley needs to be dropped off into caches and then retrieved as often as possible to win the race, and he also needs to build up as much mileage as possible.

Running from our Start The Year Event 2019 until our Start The Year Event in 2020, your hound has a year to rack up the miles, find the caches, and be the Best of Breed!

Long Distance Runner Race:

• Every dog tag is entered into the main race. The winner is the Racing Hound that travels the furthest between January 12th 2019 and January 3rd 2020. See below for the rules.

Best of Breed Races: Each breed has a different goal.

• Retriever: the Racing Hound that is 'Retrieved' the most times.
• Pointer: the Racing Hound that has the most 'Discover' logs.
• Setter: the Racing Hound that clocks up the most mileage without leaving the British Isles.
• Boxer: the Racing Hound that is 'Dropped Off' or 'Visits' the most caches that are 'Small', 'Regular' or 'Large'.

Rules

General

1. The race begins on January 12th 2019 at 0:00 and ends on January 3rd 2020 at 23:59.
2. Owners cannot help their tag progress in the race (i.e. post a 'Retrieve', 'Dropped Off', 'Visited' or 'Discover' log). These logs will be invalid, and will not benefit the tag's standing in the race categories.
3. Owners should not be present when a person is dropping, retrieving or discovering the dog tag.
4. Each geocaching account can have up to four Racing Hounds in the race, but they must be different breeds. In other words, you cannot have more than one Racing Hound of the same breed in the race.
5. If your Racing Hound goes missing, you are out of the race. Copy tags are not allowed to be released.
6. The race standings will automatically be updated throughout the year. Once the race has reached its conclusion, they will be verified by the GAGB committee to check for unexpected errors. The decisions made are final, and not open to discussion or reconsideration.
7. There will be no more than one prize per person - if a Racing Hound owner wins more than one category, they will only receive one prize and an honourable mention in the other category/categories won. In this case, second place will receive the prize itself as well as a mention.

The Races

Long Distance Runner Race:

• 'Dropped Off' and 'Visited' logs add to mileage. Racing Hounds can travel all over the world.

Best of Breed Races:

• Retriever: 'Visited' logs do not count, this Racing Hound needs to be 'Dropped Off' and then 'Retrieved' for it to count.
• Pointer: You should not ask people (for example, at an event) to discover your tag.
• Setter: If the Racing Hound is taken abroad, these miles will simply be ignored by the race leaderboard, and the mileage will pick up again when it comes back. This does not apply to the other breeds.
• Boxer: The Racing Hound can visit non-eligible cache sizes without disqualification - only caches of eligible sizes will count towards the winning total.

Winners

There will be six winners: one for each race category, and the winner of a prize draw.

All Racing Hounds in the race (with the exception of the winners of the five other prizes) will be included in the draw.

The winners will be announced during an award ceremony at GAGB's 'Start the Year' event in early January 2020. 
Prizes will be issued during the event, but if a winner cannot attend their prize will be posted promptly after.
