Artist's Edition - 50 Made
The Hold Fast Edition features blue sparkle enamel and black transparent enamel with a nickel finish. The text on the side with the white city is written in elder futhark runes. These runes have been used throughout Europe for many centuries and are often written on monuments and weapons. Many people believe that the runes contain magical power, while other people see them as being a unique part of European culture.
A theme which has been revisited over and over again in naming the various editions produced by Gregson Vaux Artifacts, is getting through the dark night. For this particular coin, the night has two sides, parts of it are gloomy, but there is another side to the night where the full moon shines and the stars are brilliant. The phrase "Hold Fast" comes from tall ships. To be a successful sailor, you needed to hold the ropes securely and not let them slip through your fingers no matter how difficult it was to resist the wind. This phase later came to mean continuing in any difficult task and not giving up. We all reach a hour in our lives when we feel that failure is imminent and that the things we love may be taken from us. In those times we must hold fast and stay the course. If we learn to persevere, the night does not seem so hopeless and we can appreciate the beauty around us.
