About This Item

The idea for the Bockereyders Geocoin was born during the design competition for the dutch geocoin 2011.
The first design for this geocoin was sent in, but did not won the competition. Nevertheless the idea was
born and together with Woejam (Geocachingshop.nl) they continued on the idea. After some changes to the
design the Bockereyders geocoin was born.

The designer of the coin gave the following explanation for his design:
"One of the famous legends in our region is the legend of the Bokkenrijders (goatriders) or as it was
written back in the 18th century: Bockeryeders. It was a fearsome gang that operated in the border region
on both sides of the river Maas (Meuse), both in the Netherlands (Kerkrade), Germany (Aachen) and Belgium
Wellen). It was believed they rode on goats through the sky....."
On the front of the coin the 3D head of a goat is shown. The head is framed by the words "Bockereyders"
and "Goatriders" repeated several times. The back shows a 2D goat head which is surrounded by a carved
work from the origninal design, the words "Goat riders in the sky" and the letters "CRW" and the
highlighted "S".
