Radegast (sometimes also referred to as Radigost, Radhost or Redufast) is the Slavic god of the sun, war, abundance and fertility. The appearance of Radegast is commonly associated with a statue, created by sculptor Albin Polasek, which is based on Radhošť. Why here?
Radhošť was, in fact, often associated with pagan rites and worship of Radegast, his idol, who was there at the time it was allegedly left in his mission in Great Moravia in the nineteenth century. Radegast is depicted with the head of a bull, a cornucopia, a duck and Wallachia peasant shoes. It is interesting that the material of the original sculptures of the 30s, hardly endured the harsh weather conditions, the most known statue was replaced in 1998 by a copy of granite. The original is on display in the lobby of the Municipality of Frenstat.
