About This Item

Front & Back

Time is precious. We’ve all heard it, but how many really listen to or are even willing to acknowledge the stark reality of the message? How many seize in every precious moment to live life to the fullest? Cachers are a breed apart and constantly in search of new surprises, adventures, friendships and memories. They often exemplify the best in living a full life, but even among cachers there are those few who do more, go further and leave behind stories that will be told and retold for generations. In the end pale death waits for us, but while he can take our bodies, he can’t take the very best of us: the memories, stories and examples of the best in humanity that set us apart. How will you live your life? Will you sit idly counting the passage of time waiting for judgement or will you seize every precious minute of the life you’ve been given? This coin commemorates those few who face life head on, laugh equally at overcome challenges or bitter defeat and still love every minute left.

The face of the coin is designed by Russion illustrator Andrey Popov. It is adorned with a crown of royalty, the crucifix of religious belief and the skull as an immortal symbol of death and stark reminder that regardless of station or piety death’s arrival is assured for all. Quintus Horatius Flaccus (Dec 8 65 BC – Nov 27 8 BC), the leading Roman lyric poet during the time of Augustus, summed up the truth beautifully in his work Odes. His words adorn the outer border surrounding the deceased in a mocking reminder alongside the triumphant lily symbols heralding his arrival.
The reverse side of this coin portrays in satirical manner the Old Grim himself and the Angel Host both wait on a still far greater power than themselves: Time. Death, Old Grim, the Harvester, by whatever name used the reaper must wait patiently for our sands of time to run out. The Angel, for all her beauty, purity and strength must wait just as patiently watchingour deeds before escorting us to our final destination. The passage of time records all deeds great and small during our limited visit in this world. Time, the great equalizer between the birth and death of existence for all, washes brightly across the faces of both. Those glittering sands poor faithfully through the glass measuring the time allotted for each of us, but so many wonderful experiences can be recorded within the passage of those infinitely fine grains. The tracking code is written on the scroll of our life story recording our travels, deeds and adventures of all kind. So what will you do in the time that remains to you?
