Current Goal

This travel bug is part of my Moving to Knoxville Travel Bug Race, started in May 2014. PLease help it get to KNoxville Tennessee as quickly as possible. Thanks.

After 8 years of living in Las Cruces, NM we are finally moving. It was inevitable, my wife finished her PhD and got a post-doc elsewhere. I'm actually quite surprised that we ended up in Las Cruces for so long. I've grown to love this part of New Mexico, with it's rugged mountains and vast deserts. But Tennessee means new adventures. What better way to kick off a new adventure than with a little travel bug race?

I've released 5 new travel bugs all with the mission of reaching Knoxville, Tennessee. With my other travelbugs, I've come to realize that giving them a mission is no guarantee they'll go where you want. But I figure with 5 travel bugs, one of them is bound to make it. Hey, I'm moving out there, why shouldn't they? I will manually update this page every so often to show where they all are, and any notable places they've been.

About This Item

SporTrak read to go

Have you ever gone out geocaching and realized that you left your GPSr at the last cache you found? Did you realize this after hiking miles away and dropping thousands of feet of elevation, over loose, rocky and thorny terrain? Hmm.. maybe this GPSr is yours then?

I found this old Magellan SporTrak GPS receiver at the cache Hike and Scramble, a minor ridge leading up to Baylor Peak in the Organ Mountains near Las Cruces, NM. The first thing I did when I got home (well, after cleaning up and taking a shower maybe) was to put batteries in it to see if it worked. No such luck. However, having a dead GPSr turned out to be perfect for going caching with my toddler. I would use my GPSmap, and he would get this unit. I never had to worry about him dropping it, dunking it in water, spilling milk on it or mashing the buttons. But the time came to finally get rid of this old GPSr. I didn't have the heart to throw it away, so I turned it into a travel-bug. The battery compartment is silconed shut, please do not try to remove it.

Despite not being able to receive coordinates from satellites, this GPSr would still love to visit geocaches. Please take it with you!

i was checking on the condition of my cache highway 82. the cache is in good shape but someone took this trackable without logging their find. if you take a trackable, please LOG IT!!! people enjoy watching these travel and if you don't log it, you ruin the fun for other people. i believe a premium cacher named Tayl0rr0se has this TB. i hope she will log the TB in the future.
