A Geocoin Caravela esteve a cargo do GeoPt.org e HelLa Twins. Pelo timing com que foram idealizadas e produzidas, quase rivalizavam com a geocoin Portugal 2012.

Bérrio (caravela)

Bérrio era o nome de uma das embarcações da expedição de Vasco da Gama que descobriu o caminho marítimo para a Índia.

Chamou-se assim por ter sido vendida ao Rei D. Manuel I, para fazer parte da frota da Índia, pelo seu proprietário, D. Manuel de Bérrio, natural de Lagos, que a aparelhou por ser conceituado piloto na época.

Era uma caravela latina - envergava velas triangulares que lhe permitiam bolinar melhor - robusta e veloz, com 30 metros de comprimento, três mastros e 50 toneis de porte (1 tonel igual a cerca de 1.000 litros), equivalente a cerca de 50 toneladas.

A Bérrio partiu de Lisboa a 8 de Julho de 1497, juntamente com as naus -embarcações que utilizavam pano redondo - São Gabriel e São Rafael, cada uma com 90 tonéis, bem como uma carraca de mantimentos com 110 tonéis, sem nome ou São Miguel, segundo alguns historiadores.

Sendo a mais leve e rápida da frota, foi a primeira embarcação a regressar a Lisboa a 10 de Julho de 1499 sob o comando de Nicolau Coelho e tendo como piloto Pêro Escobar, que mais tarde acompanhariam a frota de Pedro Álvares Cabral na sua viagem de descoberta do Brasil em 1500.

Bérrio (caravela)

Bérrio was the name of one of the ships of the expedition of Vasco da Gama that discovered the maritime route for India.

It was named after having been sold to King D. Manuel I, to be part of the fleet of India, by its owner, D. Manuel de Bérrio, a native of Lagos, who fitted it for being considered a pilot at the time.

It was a Latin caravel - it wore triangular sails that allowed it to bolinate better - robust and fast, 30 meters long, three masts and 50 tons of cargo (1 tonne about 1,000 liters), equivalent to about 50 tons.

Bérrio departed from Lisbon on July 8, 1497, along with the ships - ships that used round cloths - St. Gabriel and St. Raphael, each with 90 barrels, as well as a carrack of groceries with 110 barrels, unnamed or São Miguel , according to some historians.

Being the lightest and fastest of the fleet, it was the first vessel to return to Lisbon on July 10, 1499 under the command of Nicolau Coelho and having as pilot Pêro Escobar, who would later accompany the fleet of Pedro Álvares Cabral on his voyage of discovery of Brazil in 1500.
