Frederick John Kingdon b. !st April 1897, Bishops Nympton, Devon d. 1st April 1972. Fred was Mr O's paternal grandfather.
The dog is Bob who was a `carbon copy` of Bob the dogs' father called `Wag`
The other legs, through the gate, are of his dog Flirt, This was probably Flirt IV.
During the Great War, 1914-18, Frederick was conscripted into the army and because of his agricultural background was sent to drive a horse and cart. This was at a factory in Coventry - possibly a glass factory, employed on munitions. He was billeted with a man who worked at the factory and it was he who made the glass pigs given to my father. (See pic)
Grandad Fred lived in Woods Farm, near Yeo Mill, Devon. This is in Devon, UK, on Exmoor National Park. Fred farmed here until around 1966 as his life as a farmer changed for ever when he moved away.
Happy childhood memories for Mr O.
The Geotees tag shows the flag for Devon. Attached is a photo of Fred standing, with his dog Bob, outside the gates to Woods Farm.
