Como os artistas entraram no geocaching a explorar a zona à sua volta de novas formas, era natural que eles começassem a pensar noutras grandes viagens exploratórias e tentassem comemorá-las com geocoins. Voyages of Exploration é uma série de quatro moedas que comemora aqueles que se aventuraram para além do horizonte, para descobrirem o que estava para além do limite do mundo que conheciam. O design da rosa-dos-ventos na moeda foi inspirada por um projeto feito pelo fabricante de mapas do século XV, Jorge de Aguiar. Todas as moedas da série irão partilhar o design da rosa-dos-ventos com coloração correspondente ao tema do lado oposto da moeda.

Sea, a primeira moeda da série, honra os valentes marinheiros que foram para além de onde se avistava terra. Eles aventuraram-se no desconhecido - construindo os seus mapas à medida que avançavam, usando ferramentas que eram obras de arte na época, mas que agora parecem rudes quando comparadas com os dispositivos eletrónicos disponíveis para nós, nas nossas explorações do século XXI. Aqueles primeiros exploradores teriam entendido a vontade que sentimos a cada cache que saímos para procurar.

As the artists have gotten into geocaching and exploring their surroundings in new ways, it was only natural that they start to think about other great exploratory voyages and attempt to commemorate them with coins. Voyages of Exploration is a four coin series commemorating those who ventured out beyond the horizon to discover what lay beyond the edge of the world they knew. The compass rose design on the coin was inspired by a design done by 15th century map maker Jorge de Aguiar. All the coins in the series will share the compass rose design with coloring matching the theme of the obverse side of the coin.

Sea, the first coin in the series, honors the brave sailors who set out beyond the sight of land. They ventured into the unknown – building their maps as they went using tools that were state-of-the-art at the time, but now seem crude compared to the electronic devices available to us as we go about our 21st century explorations. Those early explorers would have understood the drive that send us out to find each new cache.
