Current Goal

Dwarvish history tells of the Kingdom Under the Mountain, founded by Thráin I the Old but which flourished under his descendant Thrór. Under Thrór's reign, the Kingdom Under the Mountain became a great stronghold where the Longbeard dwarves became a numerous and prosperous people; they amassed a large treasure hoard during this time. Unfortunately this drew the attention of the dragon Smaug, who took over the mountain, using the dwarves' hoard as a bed.

Thorin II Oakenshield, son of Thráin, son of Thrór, was determined to get back the treasure, his birthright. Together with the wizard Gandalf, the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, and twelve other dwarves, he set off on a long and arduous journey to reclaim Thrór's treasure.

If you should find Thrór's treasure, of course take the time to admire it and discover its secret code, but then please leave it in situ for future companies of adventurers to discover.

About This Item

When Thrór was contemplating what to do with his treasure, there was only one he would trust with his most precious gems and jewels: the lapidary Amberel.

This geocoin was kindly made and awarded by Amberel, for the opencache There and Back Again. The coin shows on this system as being in the hands of the owner, but it is resident in the aforementioned cache. As with all the Amberel coins that we are fortunate enough to have been given, this is a treasured geocoin, so please leave it in situ for future companies of adventurers to discover.

It was very rewarding to see Thror's treasure at the end of a varied and challenging quest (that included encounters with dragons, spiders and trolls among others) and we only managed to surmount the final obstacles with the help of no less than two wizards.

We hope the hoard is often admired but never plundered in the years to come.

Our quest has taken even more instalments than Peter Jackson's interpretation of the source material. I very much enjoyed the location of Thror's Treasure and it was an appropriate addition to the cache hoard.

We hoped finally to find this treasure and Smaug did not stop us but we were once again thwarted by the clock. We were also attempting another adventure where we failed at the final matrix. Unfortunately, it seems that the virtual openworld is malfunctioning for me at present.

An awful lot of these top cache coins end up in west Wiltshire in the hands of Abanazar. I'm consider myself very lucky to have discovered most of them.

Still putting the final touches to the multi-million pound epic that is the log for this cache. I'm sure it will get it's premier by this weekend. Smashing coin love discovering these 'top cache geocoins'.
