Current Goal

The Circular Slide Rule geocoin is the personal geocoin of the Dutch geocacher technetium, who designed this geocoin together with Chuck Turner from Palehorse Design (PHDCoins.ca). They have made a functional geocoin, which can be used for math operations like multiply or divide as well as for sinus or cosine calculations.

For example: Align number 1 from the outer circle with the number 3 from the inner circle. The number 12 from the inner circle will now align with number 4 from the outer circle (12 is the product of 4 cross 3). The number 1.67 at the outer circle can also be regarded as number 16.67, number 166.67, etc. This will give you number 5, number 50, number 500 and so on. Because the numbers on the circular slide rule are alinged in a circle this will continue ad infinitum

The center of the geocoin contains a fractal (a Sierpiński's triangle), which describes an infinite repetition like the numbers on the circular slide rule. The largest triangle of the Sierpiński's triangle contains the electron configuration scheme of the chemical element technetium. Technetium is the element with the lowest atomic number in the periodic table that has no stable isotopes: every form of this element is radioactive. Therefore the other triangles are empty or shows x-rays of the decayed element.

Design

The coin has a diameter of 50 mm (2") and a thickness of 5 mm (1/5"). A small rotating disc is located in the middle of the geocoin. I.e. the geocoin is a functional circular slide rule and can be used for math operations like multiply or divide. Including a trigonometric scale, it can also be used for trigonometry calculation of sinus, cosine, etc. The tracing code is placed on the edge.

Artwork of geocoin

On the back of the geocoin a Smith chart is shown. The Smith chart, invented by Phillip H. Smith (1905–1987), is a graphical aid or nomogram designed for electrical and electronics engineers specializing in radio frequency (RF) engineering to assist in solving problems with transmission lines and matching circuits.

So many beautiful coins, started to log them one by one but this collection is so impressive that I will watch them one by one but log them all at once from here...

Met you on my Friday the 13th event (is there a coin for that? ;-), considering there is one for many special dates there will be one for sure somewhere) in Vlissingen the Netherlands...

Long after the event was over we were still there together with Marsso talking about many stuff among which the Corona Virus but also our hobby Geocaching and then you offered to share your coin collection with us..

So honoured that you would show it to us, love to watch them all, some of them never seen before and others that look familiar...

Stay Safe, Stay Healthy and hope to see you again somwhere someday after this Corona Crisis..

Bye for now..

Gewoon TE GEK!
