Erwin Schrödinger was an Austrian physicist and theoretical biologist who was one of the pioneers of quantum mechanics. He postulated a thought experiment to illustrate one of the problems of quantum mechanics involving a cat and a box. This experiment was commonly refered to as Schrödinger Cat. In brief, a cat was put into a box and its state of being was tied to the half-life of a radioactive atom. The cat was defined as being in a superposition neither in one state or the other until an ouside observer opened up the box and collapsed the waveform into a single state. I designed this coin to poke fun at the state of travelling geocoins. They, like the cat, are in a superposition state of either being in the ammo can or not until the geocacher opens up the cache and makes the determination.

The Artist's Edition of the coin has quite different coloration from the four other versions produced. The primary side shows Schrödinger's cat in the center of a myriad of different possible states of being while the reverse side shows a stereogram. The stereograms for each version of the coin are all related to either geocaching or the story of Schrödinger's cat.
