Current Goal

This Cooper pair of Travel bugs is really supercool, what could explain their link with supraconductivity. Those cool animals want to travel at the speed of electricity, without any resistance.

Rules for Cooper pair bugs are not the same as the one we apply to the normal bugs :

  • If you find one :
    • just retrieve it, if this option is available
    • or else, grab it
  • When dropping one in a cache :
    • If the bug is still in your inventory, drop it using the "dropped off" option on geocaching.com
    • If the bug is no more in your inventory, no problem, just drop it in the cache, with no action on geocaching.com
Note : With this "Cooper pair" of travel bug, I wanted to experiment with the use of the Copy Tag that Groundspeak delivers when you buy a Travel Bug Tag. Just to see what happens when you launch both the Travel Bug and the Copy Tag at the same time. Have fun.

About This Item

The Cooper pair at the start of their journey

In condensed matter physics, a Cooper pair is two electrons (or other fermions) that are bound together at low temperatures in a certain manner first described in 1956 by American physicist Leon Cooper. Cooper showed that an arbitrarily small attraction between electrons in a metal can cause a paired state of electrons to have a lower energy than the Fermi energy, which implies that the pair is bound. In conventional superconductors, this attraction is due to the electronphonon interaction. The Cooper pair state is responsible for superconductivity, as described in the BCS theory developed by John BardeenJohn Schrieffer and Leon Cooper for which they shared the 1972 Nobel Prize.
