This container is presently being used as the cache container for http://coord.info/GC4ZVR
Thus, at this time, the ammo can is only meant to be discovered. Please do not take the ammo can!
Read its incredible story below!
This ammo can was originally located by a stream in the woods in the Occoquan Regional Park. Indeed, the ammo can was the cache container for my Blue Trail Treasure cache (GC2FECJ). In September 2011, the ammo can washed away during heavy storms in the area. I searched and searched for the poor ammo can, but my efforts to find it ultimately proved to be futile. So I replaced the lost ammo can with a small plastic container, assuming the ammo can would never again be found.
Fast forward eight months later. I received a call from a man (muggle) claiming to have found the ammo can half buried upside down in the sand at Fairview Beach. Here's the catch. The beach is a good 30 miles south down the river from where the ammo can had been originally hidden. So after thanking the man for calling me (my phone # was inside the cache), I drove down to the beach and sure enough, there the cache was. The cache sticker was peeling and there was tiny bit of rust, but the cache was in working order and the contents inside were dry as a bone! So, as as you can see, this ammo can is a real survivor!
Upon retrieving the ammo can, I then debated what to do with it. The original hiding spot was literally washed away by the storm. So I decided against putting it back in Occoquan. I then thought about hiding it back at the beach, but figured most of the folks from my area would never likely see it. In the end, I decided I'd commerate the ammo can's little trip down the Potomac River by making it trackable. That way lots of folks can see it and read about its incredible journey. And who knows, perhaps some of the ammo can's good fortune can rub off onto others who discover it!
Below is a map that shows the likely trip the ammo can took from Occoquan on the river to get to the beach. The ammo can started at Point A and ended traveling down the river to Point B. Of course, who knows what twists or turns it took along the way. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this little ammo can's story. Happy caching!
