This petrified wood Chemnitz geocoin (antique gold edition) belongs to the personal collection of -flying-dutchman- and can only be discovered!

 

Dieser tolle Earthcache Geocoin zeigt den versteinerten Wald in Chemnitz. Er wurde 1737 in Hilbersdorf (heute ein Stadtteil von Chemnitz) entdeckt und sind heute im Museum für Naturkunde ausgestellt.

Die Entstehung dieser Kieselhölzer hat mit dem Ausbruch des Zeisigwald-Vulkans vor ca. 291 Millionen Jahre begonnen. Bei dem Ausbruch wurden die Bäume durch die Druckwelle entwurzelt und entästet, und anschließend mit 80° bis 100° Celsius heißen Auswurfmaterialien bedeckt.

Dieser Geocoin wurde zu Ehren des tollen Naturdenkmals kreiiert. Auf der Vorderseite ist der versteinerte Baum, sowie der ursprüngliche Wald dargestellt. Die Rückseite zeigt ebenfalls den versteinerten Baum, sowie einige Fossilien, die mit transparenter Farbe bedeckt sind.

I have been given this incredibly huge collection of trackables by Geo-Dragonchild. Since that moment I am trying to visit (and admire) individually as many of these trackables as possible - but the collection is so big that I may not be able to visit all of them in details. I met Geo-Dragonchild perhaps several times during various Mega and Giga events in Europe, definitely it was this month at North Wales Mega event on the beautiful Llangollen canal. The Geo-Dragonchild's collection gives really a pleasure to browse through. I congratulate the owner for the given time and investment that this collection represents. Indeed, incredible! Thanks.
