Current Goal

It struck me that Amberel's elegant design bears a striking resemblance to a classic spiralling labyrinth. Such a structure certainly has relevance to the cache that this coin celebrates, for entry to the seventh circle is guarded by the great Minotaur, who normally resides in the labyrinth of Knossos.

Furthermore, scholars observe a distinction between a maze and a labyrinth. According to Wikipedia:

Maze refers to a complex branching (multicursal) puzzle with choices of path and direction; while a single-path (unicursal) labyrinth has only a single, non-branching path, which leads to the centre. A labyrinth in this sense has an unambiguous route to the centre and back and is not designed to be difficult to navigate.

I would argue that this also applies to il Nono Cerchio. There are not many alternative paths that may be taken (for more than a few metres anyway), so the navigation is generally "unicursal". That is not to say that the journey is easy, of course.

The ninth circle, however, is ultimately dominated by treacherous characters. This piece of silver now resides there; it should not be removed please, but it is hoped that it is discovered by any who venture to those depths.

About This Item

This geocoin was kindly made and awarded by Amberel, for the cache il Nono Cerchio. As with all the Amberel coins that we are fortunate enough to have been given, this is a treasured geocoin, so please leave it in situ for future adventurers to discover.

How to find this coin

From the cache of il Nono Cerchio, head back towards the T-junction where you joined this passage. Instead of turning left, continue north-west, as far as you can go. You should soon discover the coin. It resides in its own bespoke hide. It is hidden in exactly the same way as the cache itself, so please use the same finding techniques. Feel free to discover it, but please replace it exactly as you found it.

Still in the same location but I had to modify the hide slightly; see corresponding cache log. Spoiler photo attached.

We made it 🙂 ! First and foremost I must say a huge thanks to Abanazar for creating each one of the 'unholy trinity' of Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate ~ Earanaes paes wyrmes denn ~ il Nono, all of which Lucinda1904 and I have finally conquered.
In August '16 Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate was successfully undertaken, discovering Charon's Obol Geocoin in the adventure.
In October '16 the dragons den was entered where dragons were indeed encountered.
In December '16 il Nono was attempted unsuccessfully as we turned back about half way from the Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate cache to the il Nono cache and coin locations due to increasing fatigue.
Finally. in April '17 we have visited the il Nono cache site and also discovered Uno dei trenta geocoin.
These were a series of character building, life enhancing achievements for us despite all the effort, fatigue and being thoroughly caked in mud !
For me il Nono was a journey beyond 'the twilight zone' .
Thank you Abanazar.

Wow what a beautiful coin!

As others have said: unless you are one of the very, very, few who've got to touch this coin you'll just have to take my word for it that it requires rather a stupendous amount of effort, willpower, skill, and dare I say cajones.

By the time Dizzygirl and I actually made it to this very last part of this mission I had, as the C/O predicted, ditched pretty much all my kit except what I was standing up in - otherwise I'd have happily used the last of my water to give it a wash! As it was I gave it a big kiss and tucked it up safe and sound back in its hidey hole.

What a fitting climax to an unforgettable day...

What an adventure with cjfoundit!
Spanning almost a year from these caches initially sparking our interest and instigating puzzle solving, collecting the necessary equipment, planning and preparing for each of our three (and a half!) amazing adventures which tackled Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate and Earnanæs, þæs wyrmes den and, ultimately, il Nono Cerchio.
We had decided on Good Friday '17 to make our second attempt and once back in the familiar chamber of Lasciate we descended into the abyss, hoping that this time we could reach the cache site and geocoin location.
Fast forward a good few hours during which we ascended, descended, twisted, turned, stretched, squeezed, pushed, pulled and…we made it!
After admiring the nearby flowstone and surroundings we approached the cache location and soon spotted the tell-tale sign of GZ. 'smaughunter' had reported dropping the cache container a metre or so down through boulders back in September '16 so we had a good look around – both in the obvious ‘nook’ and in the vicinity, finding some out of place line caught up between the rocks but not the cache container. In the end we settled on leaving our names tucked behind the familiar tell-tale sign of GZ before heading off to discover this treasured resident geocoin Uno dei Trenta.
With our mission complete we exited the ninth circle, retracing our steps until we found ourselves back out in the fresh night air…muddy, tired and delighted with our achievements! It was most definitely a long and challenging journey like no other, but teamwork, courage and determination in an amazing location made this a thoroughly enjoyable and truly memorable experience. Huge thanks to Abanazar for these three excellent caches – for the ultimate challenge of il Nono, for sharing this beautiful geocoin and for the journey, experience and adventure along the way!

This is an automated message.
abanazar has moved TB3R8Z3 to its last known location.

I originally dropped it in Lasciate as it was the nearest location recognised on the system. I'm not sure how it got transferred to an "Unknown location" but I have now moved it back.

Unless you try it ,there is no way to anticipate the amount of work involved in discovering this coin. I am grateful to my team mates rocksniffer and yukonhuskies for the rope assistance in and out of the chimneys and for my magic dragon claw shoes that enable me to walk on walls and my lizard body to creep through holes. This was probably the hardest 100m I have ever travelled but the far rift was so very worth the effort. Thanks to Abanazar for beckoning me here and good luck to all others that attempt to find it.
