A Portucale Geocoin foi a primeira geocoin dedicada à cidade do Porto. O desenho não deixa dúvidas, uma vez que estão representados símbolos inequívocos desta grande cidade do norte de portugal: um barco Rabelo, embarcação típica do rio Douro que transportava pipas de vinho do porto ao longo do rio, e a ponte D. Luís, do fim do século XIX, uma ponte com estrutura metálica que liga o Porto e Vila Nova de Gaia. A parte frontal da geocoin é inspirada no brasão da cidade, que foi sobreposto a uma rosa dos ventos. O texto em volta da geocoin diz “ANTIGA, MUI NOBRE, SEMPRE LEAL E INVICTA CIDADE DO PORTO”, tal como no brasão:

O nome da geocoin vem de uma designação antiga da cidade do Porto, que na época romana foi chamada Cale ou Portus Cale e, mais tarde, no século IX, Portucale.

A concepção e o desenho da geocoin foi da Koin Alchemy. O desenho foi apresentado à comunidade num post do fórum Geocaching@pt, no qual o caixeiro_viajante nos oferece também uma breve memória descritiva do projeto:

Conceito:

Representar 3 marcos que simbolizam a cidade. A ponte D. Luis, o barco rabelo e aliar a associação ao Rio Douro com o Vinho do Porto.
Verso da moeda é a parte “nobre” da moeda, representado o brasão da cidade aliado a pormenores “monárquicos”, visto que a cidade foi erguida durante momentos atribulados, durante a monarquia portuguesa. O verde é a cor da cidade. Pormenores a “prata” e “ouro”.

E o desenho apresentado foi o seguinte:

Numa fase inicial esteve prevista a produção de duas versões (uma regular, Antique Silver e uma limitada, Antique Gold), sendo que cada lote de 10 teria apenas uma geocoin da edição limitada. Na verdade acabaram por ser produzidas mais duas versões, as quais foram vendidas pela loja que as produziu.

The Portucale Geocoin was the first geocoin dedicated to the city of Porto. The design leaves no doubt, once unmistakable symbols of this great northern city of portugal are represented: a Rabelo boat, typical boat of the river Douro that carried kites of wine of the port along the river, and the D. Luís bridge, of the end of the 19th century, a bridge with a metallic structure connecting Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. The front of the geocoin is inspired by the city's coat of arms, which was superimposed on a rose of the winds. The text around the geocoin says "ANTIQUE, VERY NOBLE, ALWAYS LOYAL AND INVICTA CITY OF OPORTO", as in the coat of arms:

The name of the geocoin comes from an old designation of the city of Porto, which in Roman times was called Cale or Portus Cale and later in the ninth century, Portucale.

Concept:

Represent 3 landmarks that symbolize the city. The D. Luis bridge, the rabelo boat and ally the association to the Douro River with the Port Wine.
Verse of the coin is the "noble" part of the coin, represented the coat of arms of the city allied to details "monarchical", since the city was erected during troubled times during the Portuguese monarchy. Green is the color of the city. Details of "silver" and "gold".

Initially, two versions (one regular, Antique Silver and one limited, Antique Gold) were planned, with each lot of 10 having only a limited edition geocoin. In fact they ended up being produced two more versions, which were sold by the store that produced them.
