Rembrandt, filho de Harmen van Rijn, nasceu a 15 de julho de 1606, em Leiden. Tendo alcançado sucesso na juventude como pintor de retratos, os seus últimos anos foram marcados por uma tragédia pessoal e dificuldades financeiras. Os seus desenhos e pinturas eram populares durante toda a sua vida e a sua reputação como artista permaneceu elevada.

The Night Watch é o nome comum de um de seus trabalhos mais famosos deste mestre holandês e é mais propriamente intitulado como The Militia Company of Frans Banning Cocq. Ele está em exibição de destaque no Rijksmuseum, em Amsterdão, na Holanda.

Rembrandt morreu a 4 de outubro de 1669, em Amesterdão, e sobreviveu à sua esposa e filho. Ele foi enterrado numa cova sem marcação na Westerkerk (Igreja Ocidental), em Amsterdão. Ele tornou-se num dos ícones mais proeminentes da Idade de Ouro Holandesa.

Rembrandt, son of Harmen van Rijn was born July 15, 1606 in Leiden.  Having achieved youthful success as a portrait painter, his later years were marked by personal tragedy and financial hardship. His drawings and paintings were popular throughout his lifetime and his reputation as an artist remained high.

The Night Watch is the common name of one of his most famous works of this Dutch master and is more properly titled The Militia Company of Frans Banning Cocq. It is on prominent display in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Rembrandt died October 4, 1669 in Amsterdam and outlived his wife and son. He was buried in a unmarked grave in the Westerkerk (Western Church) in Amsterdam. He became on of the most prominent icons of the Dutch Golden Age.
