O objetivo desta geocoin é ir ao máximo de eventos possível, sempre na companhia dos meus donos, para ser partilhada com todos os geocachers que lá estejam.

A ideia para a geocoin das gravuras rupestres de Foz Côa começou a germinar no início de 2008, tendo a semente sido lançada pelo timearth, num tópico do fórum geocaching@PT intitulado “geocoin com gravura rupestre de foz coa ????vejam se gostam“.

Será curioso observar um dos desenhos inicialmente apresentados pelo timearth, que serviu mais tarde de inspiração para o desenho final.

Inicialmente apenas duas versões estavam previstas, mas acabaram por ser produzidas 3 versões. Parte das geocoins, das versões RE e LE, foram vendidas diretamente pela loja que as produziu, a Landsharkz. As restantes vieram para Portugal e foram vendidas pela GeocacherZone, que deteve o exclusivo da venda da versão XLE (Antique Gold).

Sobre a geocoin e o que ela representa, fica um pequeno texto de apresentação que foi usado pela Landsharkz, que em poucas linhas diz quase tudo:

Esta excepcional concentração de gravuras rupestres do Paleolítico Superior (22.000 a 10.000 a.C.) é o exemplo mais notável da atividade artística humana primitiva dessa forma em qualquer parte do mundo. ”Centro do Patrimônio Mundial da Unesco. Ficamos muito entusiasmados quando o nosso cliente em Portugal pediu ao Chris para emprestar o seu talento criativo para criar esse geocoin como uma homenagem à arte rupestre pré-histórica do Vale do Côa. Esta geocoin pesa 90 gramas.

Mas mais importante que tudo será deixar aqui o testemunho do timearth, onde explica o que o motivou a impulsionar a ideia, e onde nos descreve o que pensa sobre a geocoin e os significados que esta encerra:

Um dia quando visitei as gravuras e ainda nem sequer sabia da existência do Geocaching fiquei maravilhado com o local. Estava ali na pedra um log quase eterno. O que fez com que aqueles seres humanos tivessem deixado na pedra aquele registo? O que viram eles? O que sentiram eles? Que rotas (dos tuneis) terão feito eles? Que procuravam?

Pois, são estas as perguntas eternamente sem respostas que todos os dias fazemos acerca da espécie a que pertencemos. Teremos nós (geocachers) os genes desses homens que habitaram o Vale do Côa? Sim, tenho a certeza que sim. Gostamos também nós de viajar pelos vales deste mundo e deixar também nós o registo da nossa passagem. Se pudéssemos, em que tipo de rocha gostaríamos de escrever os nossos logs? Titânio, ouro, madeira, rocha… Quando deixamos o nosso nick naquelas simples folha dos logbooks das caches, não queremos nós que ele se mantenha eterno? Acho que sim!

The idea for the geocoin of the rock engravings of Foz Côa began to germinate in early 2008, with the seed being thrown by timearth, on a forum topic in geocaching@PT entitled “geocoin com gravura rupestre de foz coa ????vejam se gostam“.

It will be curious to observe one of the drawings initially presented by the timearth, which later served as inspiration for the final design.

Initially only two versions were foreseen, but ended up being produced 3 versions. Part of the geocoins, RE and LE versions, were sold directly from the store that produced them, Landsharkz. The remainder came to Portugal and were sold by GeocacherZone, which held the exclusive sale of the XLE (Antique Gold) version.

About geocoin and what it stands for is a short presentation text that was used by Landsharkz, who in a few lines says almost everything:

This exceptional concentration of rock carvings from the Upper Palaeolithic (22,000–10,000 B.C.) is the most outstanding example of early human artistic activity in this form anywhere in the world.” Unesco World Heritage Centre. We were pretty darned excited when our client in Portugal asked Chris to lend his creative talents to creating this geocoin as a tribute to the Coa Valley prehistoric rock art. This coin weighs 90 grams (3.1oz).

But more important than all is to leave here the testimony of the timearth, where he explains what motivated him to boost the idea, and where he describes what he thinks about the geocoin and the meanings it contains:

One day when I visited the prints and still did not even know the existence of Geocaching I was amazed by the place. There was an almost eternal log on the stone. What made those human beings have left that register in the stone? What did they see? What did they feel? Which routes (of the tunis) have they done? What were you looking for?

For these are the eternally unanswered questions we ask every day about the species to which we belong. Have we (geocachers) the genes of these men who inhabited the Côa Valley? Yes, I'm sure you do. We also like to travel through the valleys of this world and also leave ourselves the record of our passage. If we could, what kind of rock would we like to write our logs on? Titanium, gold, wood, rock ... When we leave our nick on those simple logbooks of caches, do not we want it to remain forever? I think so!
