The Trilobite Geocoin was designed and minted by Tethys C and C-Side Girl in honor of the 100 year anniversary (30.th August 1909 - 30.th August 2009) of the epoch making discovery of the Burgess Shale Formation by Charles Doolittle Walcott.

The Burgess Shale Formation (named after Mount Burgess, elevation 2,599 m, a mountain in Yoho National Park, in the Canadian Rockies) is one of the worlds most popular and fascinating fossil records made famous for the exceptional preservation of soft bodied animals. This exceptional Pre-Cambrian fossil record was discovered by the paleontologist Charles Doolittle Walcott in 1909 and this formation became his life's work. Between 1909 and 1924, Charles Doolittle Walcott returned several times to the ridge, establishing a quarry, collected over 65,000 specimens and made them available for paleontologic researches.

About the Geocoin:

The Trilobite Geocoin is in the shape of a Kootenia trilobite still partially embedded in it’s rock matrix, with a map showing the Burgess Shale Formation on the opposite side. The geological age of Burgess Shale is shown on top "Cambrian Age" (approx. 500 million years BC) as well as the names of the geocoin designers on the upper left side.

I have been given this incredibly huge collection of trackables by Geo-Dragonchild. Since that moment I am trying to visit (and admire) individually as many of these trackables as possible - but the collection is so big that I may not be able to visit all of them in details. I met Geo-Dragonchild perhaps several times during various Mega and Giga events in Europe, definitely it was this month at North Wales Mega event on the beautiful Llangollen canal. The Geo-Dragonchild's collection gives really a pleasure to browse through. I congratulate the owner for the given time and investment that this collection represents. Indeed, incredible! Thanks.

Nach all den Jahren habe ich beschlossen diese wunderschöne Geocoin aus meine kleine Sammlung zu entlassen, damit er seinen neuen Besitzer hoffentlich genauso viel Freude bereitet wie einst mir. Viele Stunden habe ich damit verbracht, die Information zusammen zu tragen und das Listing zu erstellen. Zum Glück weiß ich, dass jede Sekunde sich 100 % gelohnt haben und ich wünsche mir dass Du diese gewonnene Zeit nutzt, um gemeinsam mit deiner Liebste einen schönen Abend zu verbringen.
