Geocache Description:

We are going to give NFA a break this year, since he has done such a great job on previous events for all of us. Bluegirl and I are taking the reins this year. We just hope that we can do as good of a job as NFA has.

This event will follow the same theme as NFA's previous event in 2006 ( Mid-Winter Geocaching Get-Together) event. A Chance to get together with Geocaching friends (and maybe make some new ones) while talking about Geocaching in Northern New York and the rest of the state. A Lunch-Plus Geocaching event. We will have lunch at the Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake. Additionally, this event will be a venue for Geocachers to show off their coin & pin collections and possibly make some trades along the way. Do not leave your collections at home...please bring them.

There is parking on both sides of the hotel, and on both sides of the road. If all of that parking is full, then, you can park in front of the beach (on both sides of the road) as well.

Feel free to come up the night before or early in the morning of the event and cache the morning of the event. There are currently 30 caches in the Hamlet of Long Lake or it’s surrounding area and hamlets. I will have ten to 20 more caches up and running for the event.

February can be a month of much snow. If you have snowshoes or cross-country skies - do bring them (Not needed - but will help). Did I tell you the event was in the ADKs in mid-winter? :)

RSVP me with a Note posted to this event, so I can give the Hotel owners weekly updates just before the event - as to how many heads they can expect for lunch. You are not required to eat your lunch at the hotel, but it would surely help the Hotel and the NNYGeo community if you chose to eat your lunch there. This description is an interim description and will most likely change over time. I am writing this quickly now, so I might get it posted as soon as possible to give more people time to schedule it in.

NOTE: The Date, Location, and Time will NOT change.

The event will include an Event Cache, Local Caches,  Door Prizes, and hopefully Geocoin Displays & Geocoin Trading. Did I tell you to bring your geocoins?

NOTE: If you would like to donate a door prize, please post me a note and then bring the item to the event. (suggestions: Geocoins, Geoswag, Cache Boxes, etc - the sky's the limit)

Bluegirl and I have managed to check on all of the caches in the Long Lake region and replace them, using GC.com recommendations. I'm sorry, that we have had to resort to making all the caches into Member's only caches, but this is so we have measures in place for future problems which may occur. I will convert the caches back to non-members as well just before the event. We will have print outs of all the caches in the area, at the event. You can get the handouts Friday Evening or Saturday morning at the hotel's front desk.

List of door prizes

50 Cal Ammo can (fully stocked)
GeoClues Board Game
Princeton Tec Scout Head Lamp
Geocoins (Donated by GeoCachers)
Hand Made Items (Donated by Geocachers)

For other activities or lodging in the area, see the Hamlet of Long Lake's web page here!

See you there!
