"Moerslag"
Het Savelsbos is een 6 km lange bosgordel van 300 ha groot in Zuid-Limburg. In 1881 ontdekte Marcel de Puydt, een Belgisch archeoloog, in het Savelsbos de eerste sporen van prehistorische vuursteenmijnbouw. Hij trof een groot aantal gebruiksvoorwerpen aan.
Bij Moerslag ligt het geologisch monument Moerslag, waar vroeger kalksteen of mergel werd gewonnen om land en weiden te bemesten. Deze kalksteen is ontsloten van de formatie van Gulpen en bevat grillige vuursteenknollen. Vuursteen is een zeer hard silicium-rijk gesteente.

The large Savelsbos lies in the southern part of Limburg (dutch province). In 1881 Marcel Puydt (a Belgian archaeologist) discovered tracks of prehistoric chert mining in the Savelsbos. He found a large number of used objects.
The geological monument Moerslag is near the village Moerslag, where people used to get limestone for fertilising lands and pastures. This limestone is a separated part of the Gulpen formation and contains raw parts of chert. Chert is a very hard silica-rich rock.
