This third Stuck River Bridge was built in 1927. The first bridge was built in 1863 just down stream at a cost of $495.00, it was rebuilt in 1884. In 1906 the White River was diverted in Auburn into Stuck Creek to make it a permanent tributary of the Puyallup River.
The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse lights the bridge every year during the holiday season.
Native Americans of the Green & White River Valleys were known as the Muckleshoots. The name of the Stuck River comes from the Native American word, "Stuch um", meaning BIG FISH, which also gave Sumner its first name, "Stuck Junction" and later Franklin.
The name of Sumner was selected by a "draw for the hat" and went on the railroad depot after the town incorporated in 1891.
If you have some extra time, would suggest spending some time in downtown Sumner or at the Old Cannery Furniture. You will find friendly folks, unique and interesting shops.
