Easthampstead Park Mansion

From here you can go back towards the driveway of the elegant Jacobean Easthampstead Park Mansion.  This building was built in 1868 after the old building was demolished in 1860.

The mansion was once owned by Lord and Lady Downshire who were quite famous within local circles.  Within the garden is buried the miniature railway which was Lord Downshire’s pride and joy, but once he started to suffer with dementia he ordered it buried so that no-one else could enjoy his favourite pastime.

If you get to look around the mansion go up the main staircase to see the beautiful stained glass window.  But don’t be surprised if you find yourself joined by a very elegant woman.  This is Lady Downshire who is mainly harmless but still roams the stairs of her wonderful stately home.
