Geocache Description:

This is a scenic wee area on the slopes of Mt Somers that I happened across while on a tramp up here one day. It is quite a large flat area which gives you time to relax between the "Up Hill" bits on the way to the summit. It is covered with long tussock grass and also has several small tarns on the sourthern corner. As well as the great tramping in the area there is also something else up here you may be interested in seeing.

The cache itself is located at the northern corner of this tussock plain at a curious location I found whilst wandering off the beaten track, I doubt that there are many more than a hand full of people that actually know what is here. I have checked with the present and past land owners and they have no idea what it is, also I have spoken to several people who have mustered in the area and they did not know it was here either!

So what is it...?

Well it appears to be the remains of a shelter. The structure is made up of smooth rocks (Blocks) arranged in a rectangular shape with square corners to form a short wall. I'm guessing that when it was in use that the shelter was completed by adding a canvas top, like a tent.

I am curious to know what others think of this unusual structure.

Update 16/02/10: This cache has made front page news of the local news paper due to the cache placement. (visit link)

The cache is a 400ml camo painted snap lock container that contains the usual logging stuff and Some tradings items.
