Geocache Description:

Welcome back to Rock Springs Run. If thou art brave, thou shalt seek a well hidden ammo can.

Have y'all had a chance to meet The BoonieMan? Judging from his great caches, such as Tiptoeing through the Cow Pies and Bee Head Ranch Time Capsule, and his willingness to tackle any terrain in pursuit of a smiley, it's clear that he is the personification of deep woods, old style Florida caching.
BoonieMan, This can's for you, Brother!

After you pay your $3 entrance fee, you'll drive down a blacktop road to a gate. At this stage you have a choice to make. You can park in the area to the right of the gate and hoof it about 1.5 miles along the roads before entering the woods, or you can obtain the gate code and drive down those same roads. It's not hard to guess which option this ol' fat guy picked. If you drive in, please park in a designated area or risk the wrath of the D.E.P. No, I won't tell you how to get the gate gode. Some things you just gotta do yourself.

A warning note: These woods are used by a handful of very lucky hunters each year, who get the priveledge of hunting for a few days by entering a lottery style drawing. Please respect these guys and stay out of the woods the peak hours of active hunts, specifically, early morning and late afternoon/evening. You can find a list of hunt dates and a property map at this website. Day glow orange is your friend.

Regardless of whether you hike or drive in, you will be then be faced with over half a mile of rather intense bushwhacking to get to ground zero. There are some game trails you can occasionally follow as you wind your way through the brush, but these are few and far between. When I parked, I was 0.66 miles from ground zero, but my track log showed I had hoofed 2.2 miles round trip. The bushwhacking starts off fairly simply, in a reasonably open pine/palmetto flat, and devolves kwickly from that point.

I parked at N28* 46.577 / W081* 27.907. Where you park is entirely up to you. If you survive this hunt, you will have earned this smiley. Bring extra everything. Skeeter spray, batteries, lots of water, energy bars, etc. A hiking staff will come in handy for moving venomous snakes, waving at wild boars and black bears, and for knocking down the many spider webs you will encounter. You should waypoint where you left the road and create a track log if your GPSr is so equipped, so you can find your way out.

Did I mention this is not an easy hunt?

Near ground zero you will discover three small springs which form a stream that wanders west and dumps into Rock Springs Run after about half a mile. Take the time to explore the woods so you can visit all three boils. The ammo can you seek bears the standard Clan Riffster camo, making your quest that much more difficult. The cache is tethered to keep it from floating away when the water level is high. Please re-hide the can, and the tether, as you found it.

Special thanx go to Matt Bledsoe, who gave permission for this hide.

Good luck!

FTF prize is a 1985 Swedish 5 Kronor coin.
