While eating on my lunch break my buddy Ron comes up to me and ask
if I wanted to join him in a hunting trip this weekend out in
Elizabeth Furnace. I quickly said yes, any chance I can to go hunt
some game is a good one. Just have to be at the bus at 11 pm to
take us out there Saturday morning, funny thing is Ron said
everything is being supplied because the club is testing out new
hunting gear for a magazine, which he failed to mention which one
but hey, not going to miss out on this one.
11:00 pm 4/17/09 - on the bus:
Wow, if there is one thing I can say about this hunting trip is
that these guys are a fun group, the rules are weird but they are
passing out GPS units and supplying us with rifles and ammo.
01:10 am 4/18/09 - parking lot Elizabeth furnace:
I cannot say how set up this is, each hunter gets a different
section already loaded on their GPS so there will be no issue with
interfering with each others hunt. Sadly, I am getting a ridge line
which may be the unluckiest thing, better than being at home in bed
(maybe).
05:47 am 4/18/09 - southern ridge atop Green Mtn:
Finally! After sitting at the given coordinates (calibrated for
maximum hunting efficiency) I hear some movement moving slow from
the south. Hopefully in a few minutes i can get a good shot, If I
get something today it will easily be the best hunting day as there
is suppose to be beer and BBQ at the end of the day. Okay, I see
the deer, must me a male moving ahead of a pack, i hope, getting
two would be sweet! Carrying them down will be tough. Okay, about
60 paces to the SE of me the deer stops to eat, it is now or
never........
-5:58 am 4/18/09 same spot:
BOOM! I fire two shots and it goes down, zippy chance another one
is going to be around now so I walk down from my spot to collect my
winnings. I inspect the deer and funny enough it has a tag around
it's neck. Weird, it says "It's No Game!" It is then I hear a shot
from where I fired my shots on the ridge. I duck down but it is too
late, i am hit, hit hard right in the stomach. I hear a laugh but
before I can hear anymore..................
