Geocache Description:

This micro cache is not at the posted coordinates. Solve the puzzle below to find the actual coordinates.

Rain Man is a wonderful movie released in 1988 about the interactions between two brothers: Raymond Babbitt - autistic, idiot savant, and unable to deal with his environment; and Charlie Babbitt - self-centered and trying to use Raymond for personal financial gain. The movie won four Academy Awards - for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Writing (Original Screenplay). Raymond is blessed with a memory that absorbs everything and provides total recall. Charlie takes him on an adventure from Cincinnati, Ohio to Los Angeles, California with many exciting stops along the way.

The following questions will help you determine where this Rain Man cache is hidden. You may need to watch the movie to answer some of the questions, you may be able to find some answers on-line, or if you're an idiot savant, you just may already know the answers! Raymond would probably read all the questions first and determine the best course of action to find the cache; you should probably do the same. I hope these questions bring back good memories of a fun movie, or expose you to the genius of Rain Man.

The coordinates of the Rain Man cache will be in the form of N 33° 5x.xxx and W 118° 2y.yyy. All computations to derive coordinates should be done only on the last four digits without the decimal point. For example, if you were asked to add 1234 to N 33° 55.555, you would get N 33° 56.789.

Here are the questions, the answers to which should be very helpful in determining where the cache is hidden. Have fun, and enjoy the quest!

A) How many miles were on the odometer of the 1949 Buick Roadmaster when Raymond last drove it at his house?

B) What was Ted Kluszewski’s lifetime batting average?

C) What are the last four digits of Sally Dibbs’ phone number?

D) How many toothpicks did Sally Dibbs drop on the floor?

E) What was the room number of the high roller’s suite in Las Vegas in which Charlie and Raymond stayed?

F) What was the number of the US Interstate on which Charlie and Raymond got stuck behind an automobile accident?

G) What are the last three digits of the GC Code of this Rain Man cache?

H) What was the address on Oak Street of the Kmart in Cincinnati?

J) In the doctor’s office, Raymond solved some math problems. The first one involved multiplying two numbers where Raymond gave the answer of 38,376. One number was 312. What was the other number?

K) Before going to Las Vegas, Charlie dealt cards on the trunk of the car. He stopped when there were 10 cards remaining. How many Aces remained in his hand?

L) How many dollars did Charlie and Raymond lose on the Wheel of Fortune game in Las Vegas?

M) What year was the Buick Roadmaster that Raymond drove at his house?

N) According to the marquis of Caesar’s Palace in the movie, on which date in August was Earth, Wind & Fire scheduled to perform?

P) In what year was the movie Rain Man released?

Q) How many thousands of dollars did Dr. Bruner offer Charlie to walk away from Raymond and the whole situation?

R) As Raymond was getting on the train to go back to Cincinnati, Charlie told him that he was going to visit him in two weeks. Raymond recited to Charlie the equivalent numbers of days, hours, minutes, and seconds that would be. How many seconds are there in two weeks?

S) How many Academy Awards did the movie Rain Man win?

T) How many fish sticks does Raymond eat on Wednesdays?

U) According to Raymond, how many airline accidents were there in 1987?

V) What number do you get when you take the larger of H and Q, divide it by T, and add it to the sum of A and F?

W) What is G plus J?

X) What is L divided by U?

Y) What number do you get when you start with E, subtract V, subtract C, and then add the quotient of D and K?

Z) Ignoring the decimal point in B, what number do you get when you add B to N?

The coordinates of the cache can be found as follows:

To the latitude of the posted coordinates, add W, and then subtract the last two digits of P, and you will have the latitude of the cache.

From M, subtract the first four digits of R, divide the difference by S, and add this quotient to the longitude of the posted coordinates to get the longitude of the cache.

Now, go get the cache! I hope you enjoyed this little puzzle. If you’re having a hard time answering any of the questions, please email me, and I’ll be happy to help you.
