Geocache Description:

Seething Lane Garden is a quiet little garden which marks the site of the old Navy Office.

Photobucket

The Navy Office was built in Seething Lane in 1656 and was where Samuel Pepys lived and worked from 1660. It escaped the Great Fire thanks to his efforts but was destroyed by another fire in 1673 although rebuilt in 1674-5. The building was demolished in 1788 when the office moved to Somerset House. The site is now gardens with a plaque and a bust of Pepys. Pepys and his wife worshipped and were buried in St Olave's Church opposite.

Seething Lane garden is close to Fenchurch Street station and is within walking distance of four main Underground stations – Tower Hill, Bank, Aldgate and Aldgate East while the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) link at Tower Gateway is only a short stroll away.

The cache is a black magnetic 5ml test tube.

The cache can be easily retrieved from outside the garden so is available at all times. Due to the size of the cache there is only room to write your initials and you will need to bring your own pen !! Please unroll the log book and open out so that both sides can be used.

The difficulty rating reflects the size of the cache and the GPS coverage due to all the tall buildings.
