Geocache Description:

Hidden in the Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve near Umzinto. Take the R612 inland from Park Rynie past Umzinto, and follow the signs. 6kms good dirt road to the reserve, and roads within the reserve are fine for a car.
Entrance fee is R10 per person. Open 6am to 6pm.

This little gem of a reserve, 2189 ha in extent, is a fine example of coastal scarp forest and coastal grasslands. It boasts 56 mammal species, 7 fish species, 23 amphibians, 33 reptiles, and over 300 bird species. The reserve was proclaimed in 1973, and is run in conjunction with the local community. If you explore the reserve, which we strongly recommend, you will see the close ties to the community.

There are shady and comfortable picnic sites, with ablutions - so take a picnic basket with and make a day of your visit.
Overnight accommodation is also available, visit http://www.kznwildlife.com/vernon_acc.htm for more information.

This was originally a large cache hidden under an artificial rock, but we were concerned about the possible environmental impact should it be disrupted by a large animal, so with assistance from Cache-fan, we replaced it with a micro.
